Editorial Policy

Last reviewed: June 2026

Farm Stand Finder is committed to producing accurate, helpful, and trustworthy content about local food, farm stands, and seasonal agriculture. This page explains how our editorial team researches, writes, reviews, and maintains every article and guide we publish.

Who Creates Our Content

Our editorial team is made up of local food enthusiasts, home cooks, farmers market regulars, and agricultural education advocates based across the United States. We are not a content farm — every guide and article is written by a real person who has direct experience with farm stands and local food systems.

Farm Stand Finder was founded by Kandi McCall in Harrisonville, Missouri. Kandi has personally visited hundreds of farm stands across the country and brings first-hand knowledge to every editorial decision we make. Our contributors share that same commitment: they write about things they know from real experience, not from recycling other websites' content.

When we use AI tools to assist in research or drafting, we disclose this in the article and all AI-assisted content undergoes full human review, fact-checking, and editing before publication.

How We Research & Fact-Check

We hold ourselves to a high standard of accuracy. Before any factual claim is published, we verify it against at least one of the following primary sources:

  • USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and Economic Research Service (ERS)
  • State Cooperative Extension Service publications from land-grant universities
  • National Center for Home Food Preservation (University of Georgia)
  • Direct conversations or written communication with farm stand operators
  • Peer-reviewed agricultural or nutrition research journals
  • Official state and county agricultural department publications

We do not use other blogs, SEO content farms, or unverified websites as sources. If we cannot verify a claim, we don't publish it. If an area of knowledge is genuinely uncertain, we say so clearly rather than presenting speculation as fact.

Editorial Independence from Advertising

There is a strict and absolute separation between our editorial content and our advertising relationships. No advertiser, sponsor, or paying vendor receives favorable editorial coverage in exchange for their payment. This is non-negotiable.

No paid editorial placement

Farm stands that purchase advertising or verification badges are never given better editorial coverage, higher search rankings, or special mentions in our guides as a result of their payment.

No sponsored article disguised as editorial

All sponsored or promotional content is clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Advertisement." It will never appear without this clear label.

Affiliate links disclosed

When articles include Amazon affiliate links, we disclose this clearly at the top of the article and in our affiliate disclosure page. Affiliate relationships never influence which products we recommend.

Advertising does not influence search results

The Farm Stand Finder directory search results are determined by relevance, proximity, and verification status — not by advertising spend.

Our Content Standards

Every article and guide we publish must meet the following standards before going live:

  • Original writing: All content is written from scratch by our team. We do not copy, spin, or reuse content from other websites. Plagiarism of any kind is grounds for immediate removal.
  • Reader-first perspective: We write for the person who is genuinely trying to learn something — a shopper looking for fresh produce, a vendor wanting to grow their business, a parent teaching their kids about food. We never write for search engines at the expense of real readers.
  • No health claims without sourcing: Nutritional or health-related claims in our articles are always sourced to peer-reviewed research or USDA data. We do not make medical claims.
  • Practical and actionable: Our guides are written to be genuinely useful. If a reader can't do something with the information — visit a farm stand, try a recipe, preserve produce, start a listing — we reconsider whether it needs to be published.
  • Respectful and inclusive: Our content treats all communities, farming practices, and food cultures with respect. We cover conventional and organic farming, large and small operations, and urban and rural contexts without bias.

Updates, Corrections & Review Schedule

Local food is seasonal and ever-changing. We take the ongoing accuracy of our content seriously.

Seasonal Guides

Reviewed and updated at the start of each season (March, June, September, December). Harvest windows and variety availability are updated to reflect current agricultural data and reader feedback from farm stand operators.

Evergreen Guides

Articles on topics like food storage, farm stand etiquette, and starting a farm stand are reviewed annually and updated when regulations, best practices, or reader feedback indicate a change is warranted.

Corrections Policy

If we publish incorrect information, we correct it promptly and transparently. Material corrections are noted in the article with a date. We do not silently edit errors without acknowledgment. If you find an error, please tell us — we take it seriously.

Farm Stand Listings

Directory listings are updated on an ongoing basis. Verified vendors manage their own listings. For unverified AI-generated listings, we encourage owners to claim and correct them. Closed or permanently inaccurate listings are removed upon notification.

User-Generated Content Policy

Farm Stand Finder allows farm stand owners to create and manage their own listings, and shoppers to leave reviews. This user-generated content is subject to the following rules:

  • Reviews must be based on genuine, personal experience with the farm stand
  • Reviews containing hate speech, personal attacks, or threats are removed immediately
  • Farm stand owners may not submit fake reviews for their own listing
  • Vendor-created listings must contain accurate, truthful information about their business
  • Photos uploaded must be original images owned by the uploader or for which they have usage rights
  • We reserve the right to remove any user-generated content that violates these standards
